Minnesota Permit to Carry Class

As you may know, in 2003 Minnesota became one of 30+ States that have "shall issue" Permit-to-Carry statutes. Minnesota's law is called a "shall issue" law because if the applicant was not otherwise prohibited from carrying a handgun and had successfully completed a required safety, training and education course, the Permit shall be issued.

If you are interested in securing a Minnesota Permit to Carry, contact your local Sheriff office and get an application (or download one here). Complete the application, take our class, return to the Sheriff's office with the proof of training, pay the fee, and wait up to 30 days for the background check and the permit to be approved.

Permits are good for five years.

What about non-resident Permits?  If you live outside of Minnesota you can apply for a non-resident Minnesota Permit. You can download the application, but must present the application and fees in person to any Sheriff in Minnesota. You still need the required training.  If your training comes from outside of Minnesota and you question whether that will be acceptable, it would be prudent to make a call to the Sheriff to discuss this in advance so that you are certain that you have met the minimal safety/education and proficiency requirements.

We will accept classes as small as one participant....just e-mail your interest and we will get a date for you.
