NRA BASIC PISTOL

This course consists of 5 Lessons and is a much more in-depth look into the sport of pistol shooting. We cover many of the same items as in FIRST Steps, but in much more detail. The typical participant owns thier first handgun and wants some detailed training on the safe use of that specific handgun. In some localities this class also meets the requirements of the training needed for applying for a Permit to Carry a concealed handgun (Minnesota).

We will look at revolvers and semi-automatic handguns, from the point of view of "why" we choose to own a pistol, through the safe use and enjoyment of the handgun. There is substantially more "hands on" exercises that the participants undertake, including more detailed lessons on shooting technique. The class runs about 10 hours, with a range session included.

To earn the NRA Certificate, the student also takes a 50 question open book test on the covered material and also must pass a shooting exercise on the range. All participants should be able to be sucessful in those two tests.

Although you can be a novice...a new gun owner...and take the class, most participants will feel less intimidated and less overwhelmed if they start with the FIRST Steps class, and later take this class. Participants should bring their own handgun, about 100 rounds of factory ammunition, ear and eye protection and a fun attitude!
